Resurgent January for Containers Doesn’t Mean China’s Dog Will Leap

Chinese container handling may have returned to a more rapid expansion in 2018 than the 2% growth seen in December would suggest. Data from COSCO Shipping shows a 10% increase in its Chinese ports’ performance on a year earlier in January, driven by a 16% rise in the Bohai Rim following the restructuring at Dalian. Hong Kong’s ports also returned to growth with a 9% rise in January vs. two months of declines.
