Container handling through the port of Charleston fell for a second month in February, with a 4% drop on a year earlier. Export growth outperformed imports for the first time in four months, rising 4%, which marks a contrast to the performance in Virginia and California. With significant harbor works beginning a recovery may not be immediate. The drop in imports was mostly due to weaker imports from Europe, including a 21% drop from Germany, while CMA-CGM and Maersk saw the most rapid slide in volumes at 18% and 14% respectively.
