The Mexican government has applied duties to exports of carbon steel pipes from four countries including South Korea, following a similar case against China in February. Mexico’s imports of those products declined overall, with a 15% drop in the three months to February 28, though shipments from Germany surged 36%. That illustrates a continuing problem in the commodity metals industries, where duties on supplies from one country just leads to supplies from elsewhere.
