No Surprise in No WTO Deal For U.S.-China Washing Machine Case

The U.S. and China have not been able to reach an early compromise at the WTO regarding the former’s section 201 duties on China’s washing machine exports. That’s not a surprise and sets the tone for WTO challenges against similar tariffs on solar panels launched by several countries in February. U.S. seaborne imports of washing machines fell 83% in March vs. December’s highs and have hit the lowest since 2008.
