LA Has Slow March With Evergreen and Maersk As New York Leads 1Q Performance

The rapid growth in U.S. ports’ container handling seen in recent months slowed in March, with imports rising by just 2% on a year earlier. That’s been partly due to seasonal effects in Asia. The 8% increase in handling in the first quarter as a whole may represent a more accurate picture of demand. New York / Newark did best among the major ports with a 16% rise in the first quarter after a 22% surge in March.
