Sports apparel-maker Puma may move manufacturing of its shoes from China, the Financial Times reports. That’s a response to potential tariffs due to be applied against the industry by the Trump administration, as outlined in Panjiva research of April 6. Panjiva data shows U.S. seaborne imports of Puma-related shoes have climbed 69.0% in the first quarter on a year earlier to reach a new record.

The removal of China as a production center won’t be significantly disruptive, with 18.7% of imports in the past 12 months sourced from China including Hong Kong. The company may therefore need to redirect production to existing suppliers in Vietnam (39.0%, organized by Vandegrift), Indonesia (16.1%) and Cambodia (6.8%).
