The Mexican Economy Minister, Ildefonso Guajardo, has indicated the government will make further proposals to revise automotive rules-of-origin regulations when NAFTA talks resume on May 7. While that is an encouraging sign of engagement, it suggests negotiations are far from over. Negotiators may therefore struggle to meet the mid-May deadline needed to ensure passage by the current U.S. Congress.
