The Indian government looks set to apply “safeguarding” duties on solar panel imports from China and Malaysia of up to 70% after a court case, brought by a power generator, failed to prevent them. The duties are supposed to stop spill-over shipments from other markets – for example the U.S. after section 201 duties were applied. Imports have already begun to decline, with shipments from Malaysia down 95% in the first quarter on a year earlier. Those from China dropped 16% though still accounted for 92% of imports though.
