A proposed section 232 “national security” review of U.S. uranium imports has been given a boost by government data showing American production is down 50% in the first quarter on a year earlier. The case is unusual in that the petitioners, Ur-Energy and Energy Fuel Resources, brought the case in January but as yet no decision to proceed has been taken. That’s a surprise given the leading exporter to the U.S. has historically been Russia.
