American Manufacturers Get Drawn Over the Coals As Steel Tube Case Closes

The U.S. ITC has affirmed that American steelmakers have been harmed by dumping of cold-drawn, mechanical steel tubing from six countries including China. Duties averaging 59% will now be applied, on top of the 25% section 232 duties that only South Korea of the six will be exempt from. The case has been partly successful in cutting imports with a 28% drop in the first quarter on a year earlier from the six, though a 36% sequential rise in March and 3% in April suggests the section 232 case has complicated matters.
