The Chinese government has launched an antitrust review of the memory chip industry, alleging Micron, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have used their market power to raise prices. There are clear trade aspects to this case. First the Chinese government has pushed the U.S. to allow increased exports of semiconductors to China. Restricting imports from elsewhere may help “make room” for higher American shipments if a deal can be reached.
