Maersk is closing its Chilean refrigerated container manufacturing facility and consolidating operations in China at its original factory. That comes just as the Trump administration has applied new duties against Chinese exports that include container manufacturers. The company’s decision has been driven in part by oversupply of manufacturing globally. U.S. imports of refrigerated capacity were unchanged in 2017 vs. 2015 (when the Chilean factory opened).
