Container handling through NWSA’s ports at Seattle and Tacoma fell 4% in May vs. a year earlier, making the 12th straight decline. Imports did expand 2% but that hasn’t prevented a significant shift in service provision at the port. Ocean Network Express saw a 22% drop in inbound volumes in the three months to May 31 while Maersk fell 16% (possibly linked to APM Terminals’s lease ending at Tacoma) while CMA-CGM and Hyundai MM expanded by 8% and 7% respectively.
