Container-line Matson reported a 9% surge in 2Q revenues to reach a new record after beating analysts’ forecasts by 6% points. A jump in logistics revenues offset a more lackluster 4% growth in container-line revenues. The latter was the result of a 1% decline in volumes handled after shipments from China fell 8%. Matson should be less exposed than other container-lines to the China-U.S. tariff battle though new competition from CMA-CGM’s expanded Asia-Hawaii service could be a worry.
