Container handling through the Port of New York and New Jersey surged 8% higher in July marking the 16th month of growth and an acceleration from 5% in 2Q. A 10% jump in imports was the main driver and meant the port outperformed the national average of 5% total volume growth for nine large ports tracked by Panjiva. New York nonetheless lagged its east coast peers including Houston (16%), Savannah and Charleston.
