President Trump has implemented duties on $199 billion of Chinese exports at a rate of 10% from 9/24, rising to 25% from January. The threat of extending this to all Chinese exports – presumably including those already excluded from prior assessments – remains in place. While that may provide some leverage for talks scheduled for 9/27 these appear unlikely to proceed with China set to apply duties to $60 billion of U.S. exports.
