The fortunes of the container-lines may be improving. Average shipping rates for routes out of China improved 8% sequentially in the third quarter, driven by improving Transpacific rates. The liners, starting with MSC in May, have been attempting to pass through higher fuel costs. Given bunker fuel rates rose 6% on average in the quarter that appears to have been successful, at least in the short-term. Yet, the container-lines cannot be complacent.
