Cosco Shipping will become the fifth container line to add services to Peel Ports’ Liverpool facilities. The service, which runs to Canada from Europe, will take advantage of growing volumes as a result of the CETA trade deal with the EU but will face complications from Brexit in the near term. Liverpool was the best performing U.K. port in 2018 with a 12.8% year over year expansion in handling compared to a 2.2% drop nationally. Peel Ports’ win may also reflect the ongoing disadvantages caused to Hutchison’s Felixstowe facility from prolonged IT issues last year.
