The Port of Wilmington, NC has received its largest vessel on record, operated by ZIM Shipping, – following a series of investments in handling capacity. That should allow continued growth after Wilmington delivered the fastest growth among the top 30 ports in the U.S. in 2018. One challenge for ZIM Shipping is slowing shipments from China, which fell 24.9% year over year in 1Q. The largest manufacturing consignees already operating through Wilmington include Gildan Activewear followed by Caterpillar and furniture-maker Blum Inc.
