Ikea Drops U.S. and China Sourcing, Favors Brazil and Thailand

Ikea plans to close its remaining U.S. factory as “unfortunately the right cost conditions are not in place”, with the production scheduled to be replaced with shipments from Europe. That comes as the firm also faces disruptions from tariffs on imports from China. Tariffs likely drove a 30.9% slide in imports to the U.S. from China in the second quarter compared to a year earlier.
