The semiconductor industry has been in an export downturn, with combined exports from China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan having fallen by 4.6% year over year in 2Q. China and Taiwan did best with a 17.1% and 3.3% improvement respectively. The CEO of Taiwan’s TSMC, C.C. Wei, has stated the firm has “passed the bottom of the cycle” and is seeing “demand increasing”.
