South Korean international trade activity fell by 6.2% year over year in January, marking the 13th drop out of the past 14 months. That’s partly down to the earlier lunar new year which may have cut industrial capacity by as much as 10%. All but one of the major sectors tracked by Panjiva dropped with consumer electronics particularly weak with a 52.3% slide in exports of phones and a 26.8% slump in shipments of televisions, marking particularly poor news for Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.
