California’s ports feel first effects of coronavirus disruptions

Containerized freight passing through California’s big three ports dropped 15.1% year over year in February, including a 19.3% slide in imports due to the early lunar new year and disruptions caused by the coronavirus outbreak. A 24.1% slump in handling of empty containers, which are normally sourced from inbound shipments and used for exports, indicates the scale of the task facing logistics companies in returning to normal.
