April’s bad news could be worse as China’s slowdown improves, Europe’s accelerates

The global slowdown in shipping linked to the coronavirus pandemic is likely to accelerate according to the International Chamber of Shipping and DP World. The latter expects the “real impact” of COVID-19 disruptions to be seen from Q2 onwards. The impact on regional shipping will depend on the timing of industrial lockdowns and returns to work. U.S. seaborne imports in the first 15 days of April fell by just 8.7% year over year compared to a 9.9% slide in March.
