Tata Power, Adani Green Energy face rising costs as solar import tariffs are hiked

The Indian government will impose 40% import duties on solar power modules and 25% on solar power cells from April 2022 in order to promote domestic manufacturing. That’s consistent with the government’s long-running “Make in India” strategy which has led to increased telecoms manufacturing in the country. Indian imports of solar panels fell by 26.3% year over year in 2020 as a whole though there has been a sharp recovery late in the year.
